STEAM-based projects delivered to your door with KiwiCo

Oct. 10, 2019

Thank you KiwiCo for sponsoring this post. Visit KiwiCo’s website to find the right crate for your child!

Do you get 2,000 questions a day from your children? Sometimes it can be a bit much but I always stop and remind myself they are growing. Their brains are constantly processing information and soaking up all the knowledge they can. They are constantly learning new skills daily. They get a lot of knowledge at school but I wanted a way to bring that learning home. I am always looking for new ways to make at-home play fun and educational. I know the beginning years of their lives are the most important and I don’t want them to miss out on any opportunity to learn.

When I was researching which products to utilize, I knew I wanted something STEAM-based. If you are unaware, STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math. After all my research online, I found the perfect choice for our family, KiwiCo.

KiwiCo provides crates for each of our kids based on their age. Each crate provides a hands-on project for my kids that makes learning about STEAM fun!  With their wide variety of crates for ages 0-16+, I knew I would be able to find something for all of my kids. Not only do my kids get the opportunity to create their own project, but they are also developing creative confidence. Giving them the skills to change the world through engineering and creating their own innovative designs and outcomes.

KiwiCo not only delivers fun STEAM-based crates monthly but they deliver convenience. In addition to each crate being catered to their specific ages, they come with all the necessary supplies. That means I don’t have to make a special stop at the store to get items. Everything all three of my kids’ needs comes in their KiwiCo crate. If you have ever been shopping with three kids you know what a huge time saver that is.

Since each KiwiCo crate comes monthly and we take turns with our crate, which means, I build out our KiwiCo crates one-on-one with each of my kids. My youngest is 3 and he receives a Koala crate (for ages 2-4), my daughter is 5 and receives a Kiwi crate (for ages 5-8), and my oldest is 9 and we got him the Tinker crate. KiwiCo offers two crates for ages 9-16. They are the Tinker crate and Doodle crate. The fact you can pick the crate that is more geared to your kids’ interest is another reason why I look forward to getting our monthly crates in.

I always begin with the Koala crate and my youngest because he can hardly wait to start once we receive our package. This month we received the reptile theme crate. Inside was three age appropriate activities. We started with the stuffed snake. I helped my son open the bag of stuffing and than I help by holding the snake open while he added the stuffing inside. Once the snake was fully stuffed we added the eyes and the hexagon stickers to the body. Our next activity was the turtle keepsake box. I showed my son how to pull the backing off the turtle sticker and showed him where to attach the sticky part to the container. Than I let him add the eyes and hexagon stickers to complete his turtle. Last was his favorite activity the chameleon tongue. I lined up the bugs and showed him how to hold the chameleon with the noise maker to knock down the bugs standing up. Once we put the chameleon down I showed him how the chameleon color changed. My youngest has so much fun building and creating his Kiwi Co Koala Crate. He would put down his chameleon for 4 days.

A few days later my daughter and me sat down to build her Kiwi Crate. She is 5 and the sweeper was the perfect activity for her. First was the painting of the whales for the side of her sweeper. I showed her how to clean her brush between colors and let her color her whales exactly how she wanted to. She loved that her painting was going to be part of her new sweeper. Once he finished painting both of her whales we moved onto building her sweeper. I handed her the parts in order as she followed the directions. She got suck a few times we both took that time to reflect on what she did and what was the proper set. It didn’t take us very long to finish her sweeper. We finished right as my husband was coming home and she couldn’t wait to show her dad what she made. She was so proud to share all about how she made it all by herself and even painted it too!

My oldest couldn’t wait to start his Tinker Crate so I let him start while I did some things around the house. When we build his crates, because he is 9, I let him do the whole thing unless he gets stuck or can’t figure out something. This month he got a hydraulic claw. He was able to build almost everything without my help. There was one spot where he didn’t understand what the directions were saying. I explained it to him and showed him and then let him finish that part himself. He was so proud once him claw was built. He went into his room and started picking up everything he could him his claw. He loves that hydraulic claw.

Because everything is included in the KiwiCo crate, I know that we will be able to complete everything in one afternoon. As soon as our monthly crate subscription arrives, all the kids want to build their crates because they are so excited to find out what will be inside. We have a system in place to make sure everyone gets to build their KiwiCo crate and gets their special one-on-one time with mom. KiwiCo can make a great addition to your family. Whether you are looking for ways to get more one-on-one time with your kids, a fun STEAM-based weekend project, or a fun after-school playdate, KiwiCo crates will do that and so much more. KiwiCo’s mission is to empower kids, not just to make a project, but to make a difference. When your kids build that first project they will be so proud. The feeling of accomplishment they get month after month will begin to show. You will see their confidence grow all thanks to KiwiCo crates.
