Hosting a Disney playdate party!

Jul. 15, 2019

Disney World now has more than ever and we were so excited to share that with our friends. To celebrate we hosted a Mickey party on a small budget for all our friends. I wanted to keep the party simple and we didn’t have a large budget. I decided how we hosted this amazing party without draining our pockets.

First is my go-to backdrop. It is made up of 3 or 6 plastic tablecloths. I get mine at either Dollar Tree for $1 or Wal-Mart for .97. I opted for black, red, and yellow for our party. I lay the tablecloths out on the floor to line them up. Once they are lined up I move them to the wall and secure them with clear push pins. Once on the wall, I cut it into strips about 3 inches wide and leave space at the top so it doesn’t rip off and keeps the whole thing together (I cover this with balloons later on). Next, I braid all three colors together just enough to keep them secured. That’s it, super easy and this one only cost me $3 to make because I reuse my push pins.

I am a sucker for a good balloon arch so I cover the top of my background. I use the same colors for the ballons that I use for the background. I purchase 2 bags of each color. I get them at Wal-Mart for .97 or Dollar Tree for $1. I have a roll of balloon arch tape that has last to make around 4-5 balloon arches. I will link it down at the bottom of the page the balloon arch tape.

I opted for basic red and black plates and these again I get at Wal-Mart. To save extra money I always get solid plates and not the character. They are thrown away so I don’t see the reason to get the ones with the characters. Just my thoughts on plates and how too few a few extra bucks.

Now for one of my favorite parts for the party. The food is where I get excited. I love food and I also enjoy sharing how to make cooking for a party less stressful. For our party, I opted for items I could cook beforehand or warm up the day.

One of those items was a frozen dinner from Michael Angelo’s and it was a huge hit. I got the family-sized Baked Ziti with Meatballs. I enjoy that all I had to do was heat up the oven and it cooked on its own. Frozen dinner makes a great option for any size or style party and takes some of the stress off of you.

For the other food items, I kept with the Disney theme. I found Mickey-shaped veggie chips. These were a huge hit with the kids. I did Rice Krispies dipped in red candy melts.

I am not a fan of cutting cakes at parties so I always opt for cupcakes and a non-cake dessert option. So I got a small 12 pack of cupcakes from Wal-Mart bakery. I love getting my cupcakes from Walmart because they have a great licensed selection and they are so yummy and never disappoint.

For the non-cake dessert, I tried a Popped Passion Popcorn Cake. It is a cake created with popcorn and there is different added in items. This was a big hit with everyone. Who doesn’t love a good handful of popcorn mixed together with other candies and a sweet mixture holding it together?

I never want to let the kids go home empty-handed. For their take-home gifts, I try to get something fun. So we always get a pinata first. Which we opted for this awesome Mickey Mouse pinata and a small bag of candy and toys from Walmart.

We were gifted these beautiful dresses and doll from JAKKS PACIFIC which were a huge hit with all the girls. I have found I enjoy getting 1 item per child that is better quality vs getting a lot of little things that will get tossed in a few days.

FUN FACT: The costume has the same print design as your doll.

We also received this super cute Pillow Pets that is a Mickey Emoji and my daughter took that before anyone else could get it. Which tells me that it is a great low-cost gift idea for the birthday child.

That is how I planned out our Mickey/Disney playdate party. You don’t have to break the bank to have a great party. Just use your imagination and a little pixie dust and you will be surprised what you can come up with.
