Fall is starting to sneak up on us and I cannot wait. I keep asking the husband if I can put up Halloween/Fall décor and I keep getting told no. Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the colors and of course Halloween! I love the cozy sweaters and boots that get to come out of hiding. We do not get much of a fall here in Arizona but the few days (yes, I said days) we get are amazing. I wanted to share a few tricks I use when selecting fall décor.
No. 1 – Shop clearance the year before
This is how I have gotten 80% of my decorations over the years. I go to the stores right away to get the best clearance. Pick and choose when stores décor you want the most and go there first.
No. 2 – Never pay full price
Being a family of 5 anything we can save is helpful. For example, if there is something at Michael’s craft stores they almost always have a 40% off coupon if the item is already not on sale. We have a 9-ft. minion at our house that is a staple of the neighborhood. I purchased it at Lowe’s for $20 when it retailed for $150! How did I get it for such a low-cost? Patients and a bit of time. I waited until it went clearance. At Lowe’s they go straight to 50% off. Making it $75. We had recently moved and in our welcome packet from the USPS there was a 20% coupon. Taking an extra $15 off. Last, I had 2 gift cards I redeemed by using Shopkick which equaled $40. My total was $20 plus taxes. There is a lot of ways to save money on any item. You just need to do a bit of researching.
No. 3 – Re-use or Re-purpose
There are thousands of ways to re-use or repurpose almost anything. It might take a little time but it allows you the chance to make it fit your décor or style even more. I know when I redo something I get a great sense of accomplishment and pride.
No. 4 – Bring the outdoors inside
Fall is the changing of seasons which means there is a lot of things on the grounds. Pick up some leaves and sticks and make a small arrangement. Maybe Mod Podge them to a pumpkin from the dollar store. There is so many ways to bring outside elements into your home. I will be doing some fall/Halloween tutorials this season so be on the lookout.
No. 5 – Check local secondhand stores/thrift stores
Any local second-hand stores or thrift stores. They get seasonal items just like other stores but you always get a better deal. My local store has baskets all year round and I check them out once a week. Baskets are great items for fall to add as centerpieces or to give your décor that little extra. I have a basket filled with apples year-round. Plus, when you go into a second-hand/thrift store you never know what you are going to find.
These are a few of the rules I follow all year when purchasing items for décor. There is a way to fill your house with beautiful items without breaking the pocket-book. I will be sharing some of my ways I shop over the follow few months. I hope you enjoyed my little tricks and check back soon!
