Back to school time is a busy time of year for us as a family. There is so much to do and get in a short period of time. There is the running store to store to get all your supplies. Once you get back home, you’re busy getting clothes set aside and making lunches. Your attention is needed in so many places and sometimes you are not always focused on everything around you. We get so busy during our days that we prioritize what needs our attention at the moment of time.
That is why I am so thankful for items that help keep my family safe without me having to think about it. When we purchased our first home there were a few items we knew we needed. One of the items was a carbon monoxide detector. Being a mother of 3 and a wife I wanted to know that my family was protected against any unknown dangers that could be around.
Throughout our lives, we have learned that Carbon Monoxide is the silent killer because it’s a colorless and odorless deadly gas. I am aware that the risk for CO is always around our house, but it is not something I am always thinking about. I know the danger is there as a homeowner with fuel-burning devices in my house.
Carbon Monoxide can be produced by any fuel-burning device. Some sources of CO can be the furnace, dryer vent, boiler, stove, and chimney. A lot of home has one or more of these items in their house. The potential for CO is there and like I said earlier it is an odorless and colorless gas so it’s almost impossible to detect without the proper tools. There is one way to protect your home and family is by installing a Carbon Monoxide alarm. Once you have a CO alarm you can breathe a little easier because you have that extra protection for your family and yourself.
When you go to select the right carbon monoxide alarm for your house you might get overwhelmed with the choices. My tip when selecting the right carbon monoxide alarm for your house you have to decide what features are important to you. For our home, the features I was looking for included not having to be installed on a wall and a sealed-in battery. I can’t stand those low battery chirps and the sealed-in battery was a big feature I wanted. There was one brand that stood out to us in the store, First Alert. The First Alert Tabletop Carbon Monoxide Alarm had everything we were looking for and more. The First Alert CO alarm is designed to sit on top of a dresser or tabletop, and it has a backlit digital display that shows temperature and peak levels of CO (when detected). Additionally, it gives you hassle-free protection by eliminating the need for battery replacements for 10years. At the end of the alarms life, you will hear an end of life warning letting you know it’s time to replace. My favorite part is you simply place the alarm on a tabletop and start protecting your home and family from CO.
We have had a carbon monoxide alarm for a while and I am thankful for it every day. I know that my family is protected against this potentially deadly killer gas and I can focus on my family’s needs and not if there is potentially deadly gas.
